DESCRIPTION
Overview
This 2-day cultural safari to Lake Eyasi is perfect for travelers interested in cultural immersion, especially after completing wildlife safaris. The trip offers a unique opportunity to engage with the Hadza tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities. You’ll join them for traditional hunting and learn about their ancient customs and way of life, which include gathering honey and insects from the wild.
Lake Eyasi itself is a seasonal, shallow salt lake nestled in the Great Rift Valley, at the foot of the Serengeti Plateau. It’s located just south of Serengeti National Park and southwest of the Ngorongoro Crater. The lake stretches in a southwest-to-northeast direction and lies in the Eyasi-Wembere branch of the Rift Valley. During dry months, the lake often dries up completely, making it crossable on foot by the Hadza and Datooga people. However, in wetter El Niño years, it can flood and attract wildlife like hippos and migrating flamingos.
